Home Economics, 2015 (An installation)

Home Economics is an installation that takes the form of a speculative store in Detroit. The store sells upscale housewares made from casts of houses on the verge of demolition; resulting in furniture, wall hangings, and consumable products (chocolate, candy, soap, candles). The intention is to identify hidden value in homes described as valueless, where the material preserved is actually translated through casting. The project investigates the translation of an exterior architecture (banal details of existing houses) into interior environment: displacing volumetric space with products that might proliferate across space as interior ambassadors for the city's unique economic conditions.
